Abstract

Results reveal that catalysis of allylic isomerization by ketosteroid isomerase involves, among others, the catalytic residues charging the buffer to stabilize the negative charge of the intermediates. Data indicate that the hydrogen bond distance of the intermediate analogues is about 0.2 angstrom shorter in the product analogues.
