Abstract: Obesity and related problems cost the UK's National Health Service an estimated 1.73 billion pounds sterling every year. If current trends continue, over 25% of all adults in the UK will be obese within a decade, placing a huge burden on their long-term health. The role of nurses for preventive action in the community is discussed.
