Abstract

Issues concerning the ethics and safety of using genetically engineered pig organs for human transplants are discussed. Critics claim animal viruses could potentially be transmitted to humans via xenotransplantation, and that the number of lives saved through transplants could fall far short of the number who might die from subsequent epidemics.
