Abstract: Two molecular techniques can detect 10 to 1,000 times more cytochrome cd(sub 1) denitrifying bacteria in sediment or water samples than traditional cultivation methods. The methods are most-probably-number PCR and competitive PCR, both using the cd3F-cd4R PCR primer set.
