Abstract: Issues concerning the use of the Fukui reaction to rationalize the rule of W. Grochala, A.C. Albrecht and R. Hoffmann that, for many inorganic and organic molecules, the bond lengths in the cation, first triplet excited state, neutral state and anion roughly satisfy R+ = R- - Rgs - Res = 0 are discussed.
