Abstract

Results show that Pantoea agglomerans SP1 is a facultative anaerobe capable of growing by reducing iron (III), manganese (IV) and other metals. Data further indicate that coupling the oxidation of acetatate or hydrogen to metal reduction is widespread in the bacteria living in the suboxic sedimentary environments.
