Abstract

A 17-member international physician panel with experience in caring for HIV patients has updated the recommendations for treating HIV infection with antiretroviral drugs. The panel meets periodically to evaluate continuing medical research and to revise the recommendations accordingly. There are many drug choices, which is important because some drugs may not work in some patients. In addition, the virus can become resistant to one drug so the patient must be switched to another. It is important for patients to comply fully with the drug treatment.
