Abstract

Researchers report one of the few known sulfate-reducing bacteria that uses tungsten-containing formate dehydrogenase. Most other sulfate-reducing bacteria use molybdenum in this enzyme. In Desulfovibrio gigas, the tungsten is coordinated via two molybdopterin guanine dinucleotide cofactors.
