Abstract

Iron-ligand bond lengths in ferric and ferrous horse heart cytochrome c have been determined through use of multiple scattering (MS) analyses of X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) data. Bond lengths determined with this method are more accurate than those based on X-ray crystallographic data and show small differences in bond lengths consistent with near-zero reorganizational energy terms required for fast electron-transfer properties of ferricyt c and ferrocyt c.
