Abstract
- ETA SA of Switzerland has introduced a new quartz analog watch that is designed to recapture some of the country's former share of the world watch market, which has slipped from forty percent to seventeen percent in the past decade. The Swatch is a nonrepairable waterproof and shockproof watch that weighs less than twenty grams and is eight millimeters thick. The watch, which will be produced on a fully automated production line, represents a technical breakthrough in the reduction of parts. The key to the reduction in the size of the watch was the elimination of the trimmer capacitor. The Swatch will be priced in the $20-$35 range.
