Abstract

The key aspects of Vygotsky's sociocultural theory of learning were synthesized and classroom vignettes and child interviews from a first-grade activity in the light of this theory, were interpreted. The main aspects of the theory explored were the social interactional nature of learning, the interaction between everyday and scientific concepts and the role of social interactions in mediating children's thought.
