Abstract: Experiences of obtaining a two-bedroom flat in Hackney, London, England, for 120 pounds sterling from a man who acts as a broker for squatters are described. The techniques used by this man to gain entry to empty properties without causing damage are described, including using a set of fireman's keys to gain access to the roofs of tower blocks. The legal issues relating to squatting are considered, and the growing competition among squatters for the best properties is discussed.
