Abstract

Real-time compression of skinfolds has been measured at three sites to evaluate dynamic compression of skinfolds and to suggest a mechanical model of compression that will give quantification of the elasticity and viscosity of the modeled tissues using generation of coeffcients for each component. A skinfold caliper with an added potentiometer was used. Subjects, eight males and eight females, were aged 18-40. After the initial rapid lowering in skinfold thickness an extended plateau phase exists and it has been attributed to relaignment of skin/tissue fibers. It may be the basis of reported skinfold compressibility sex differences.
