Theoretical study of base-catalyzed amide hydrolysis: gas- and aqueous-phase hydrolysis of formamide

Research was conducted to examine the base-catalyzed hydrolysis of formamide in the gas phase and in aqueous solution by means of a combination of statistical mechanical and quantum chemical techniques. The main goal is to study the aqueous-phase reaction and to analyze the influence of bulk solvent. Results are in satisfactory agreement with available experimental data for the solution-phase reaction.
