Abstract

The study of cognitive processes in animals can be utilized to determine selective effects of certain drugs and how drug manipulations can be utilized to examine cognitive processes. Animal models have already been used to examine the reinforcing and punishing characteristics of drugs, and factors influencing drug addiction, tolerance and withdrawal. In addition, drugs may support a role in evaluating cognitive interpretations of experimental findings.
