Abstract

Hairdresser Michael Damico does not enjoy doing conservative haircuts, and for this reason he tends to focus on younger women. He rejects claims that he is ageist, even though he has been fined $1,000 by the Consumer Affairs Commission for discrimination based on age after turning away a woman aged 45. He prefers to work totally alone at his salon in Manhattan, New York, NY, and does not employ a receptionist or people to wash clients' hair. He sees himself as an artist, and cuts only short hair.
