Abstract

A study was conducted to analyze renal sympathetic nerve activity responses to acute cardiac tamponade in rabbits. Cardiac afferent blockade was carried out by intrapericardial infusion of 2% procaine. Results indicated that renal sympathetic nerve activity responses to cardiac tamponade are biphasic, with increases during compensated cardiac tamponade and decreases during decompensated cardiac tamponade.
