Simulation of the particle misalignment of hard magnets after compaction

Abstract

The simulation of powder compaction for Nd-Fe-B, Sm-Co and barium ferrite is analyzed. Results show that the final magnetization varies up to 20%. The misalignment of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy directions often occurs near particle defects independent of the particle shape. The final remanent magnetization of spherical particles also reaches near saturation and is independent of mold filling.
