Abstract

The central and peripheral cardiovascular effects of endothelin-1 have been investigated in conscious rainbow trout. It was found that both intra-arterial and intracerebroventricular administration of endothelin-1 induced a dose-dependent increase in mean dorsal aortic blood pressure and a concomitant reduction in heart rate. The hypertensive effects generated by intracerebroventricular and intra-arterial injection of endothelin-1 were linked to a substantial increase in systemic vascular resistance.
