Abstract
- Claude Frizzell Bloodgood III, who is serving a life sentence for the murder of his mother, differs from other inmates at the Powhaten Correctional Facility in Virginia. Bloodgood is a chess genius, his US Chess Federation points rating making him a grandmaster. Bloodgood's version of his life story appears to be a mixture of truth and fiction. He claims to have been born Klaus Bluttgutt in Mexico, to have been involved in espionage as a member of the Nazi party during the second world war, and to have played chess with Hollywood greats such as Humphrey Bogart.
