Optical implementation of bipolar codes

Abstract

The design for a bipolar encoding fiber optic network was investigated theoretically and experimentally. The power spectrum of an erbium-doped superfluorescent fiber source was encoded, the bipolar correlations of the codes were checked and rejection of multiple-access interference was shown in a fiber-based testbed. Simulations of the correlation procedure provide the primary optical parameters and physical properties essential in the design of future systems.
