Abstract

An experiment reports a novel crystal-engineering design strategy to imbed practically unlimited numbers of porphyrin chromophores in desirable, controlled metalation states into highly organizable, rigid, one-dimensional and/or two-dimensional crystalline, supramolecular arrays. The approach enables a virtually limitless number of metal ions to be inserted into the polymeric porphyrin arrays and is therefore relevant to the design of light harvesting model systems.
