Innovation prone and innovation averse societies: economic performance in Europe

A study was conducted to show that Western European regions supporting higher resources to research and development support greater economic development. The influence of social conditions on the formation of 'innovation prone' and 'innovation averse' societies was also examined. Results indicated a positive correlation between the amount of regional resources allocated to research and development and regional economic growth in Western Europe.
