Abstract

Compounds of the stoichiometry Mo2Cl4(phosphine)4 are created by allowing the Mo2Cl4(NHEt2)4 complex to undergo facile substitution reactions of the amine ligands with bidentate and monodentate phosphines. The phosphine compounds formed include those with PMe3, PMe2Ph, PHEt2, dmpm and dmpe. One of these, the quadruply-bonded Mo2Cl4(eta1-dmpm)4, is the first crystallographically characterized member of the M2X4L4 class of compounds.
