Short and convergent synthesis of (1->3)-C-linked imino disaccharides (aza-C-disaccharides)

Research was conducted to examine the short and convergent synthesis of (1->3)-C-linked imino disaccharides (aza-C-disaccharides). A new approach that condenses a dideoxyiminoaldose with an isolevoglucosenone-derived enolate is presented. The structures of the new compounds were given by their spectral data and their mode of formation. Results provide evidence that an expedient method for the stereoselective synthesis of (1->3)-C-linked imino disaccharides has been developed.
