Abstract

A study was conducted to analyze the optical characteristics and local environment of Ni2+ in fluoride glasses. The glasses were made using highly pure reagents of metal fluorides. The Shimadzu UV-22200 and Hitachi 330 spectrophotometers were utilized to obtain the optical absorption spectra. Experimental results indicated that the ligand field strength linearly increased with decreases in the Ni-F interatomic distance in the glasses.
