A brief history of time

Watch- and clock-making began in Geneva, Switzerland, in the 16th century. Over the following three centuries, a number of influential watch- and clock-making firms emerged, including Patek Philippe, Omega and Breguet. Swiss manufacturers dominated the industry for many generations, but began to face competition from Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and Hong Kong in the 1970s. Swatch has played a key role in ensuring that Switzerland retains its strong reputation for high quality clocks and watches.
