Abstract

Research was conducted to examine the role and regulation of Bacillus subtilis glutamate dehydrogenase (GlutDH) genes. The objective was to analyze the involvement of the two genes in utilization of amino acids of the glutamate family. Results provide evidence that the rocG gene encoded themajor catabolic GlutDH while gudB seemed to encode an intrinsically inactive GlutDH. Active catabolic GlutDH were generated by spontaneous mutations in gudB.
