Abstract

A Canadian author extolls the unique applications of satellite phone technology which he tested while on a camping tour of Camp Ahmek in Ontario's Algonquin Park. He tried Inmarsat's Planet I telephone model aboard a canoe in the park in calling his bank. The telephone equipment came with an antenna, a battery and charger and a special cable to call the bank through the Internet. However, problems in hardware compatibility arose which prevented the initiation of a bank transaction.
