Abstract

The reproduction of the sea urchin, Centrostephanus rodgersii, was studied in terms of the effects of photoperiod and temperature in the diverse marine environmental conditions of New South Wales. Differences in reproduction between contrasting barrens and fringe habitat types were identified at four different locations. It was observed that temperature affected gamete storage and duration of spawning and growth of sea urchin gonads was sensitive to food quantity and quality.
