Are private social security accounts practical?

Some people who believe that the social security system should be reformed have advocated the privatization of retirement income accounts, but this may not prove practical. The complexity of managing so many small accounts would be difficult, the time at which investment would begin would be hard to fix, costs may be too high, and the millions of untraceable social security accounts would have to be controlled somehow.
