Abstract
- The identification, purification and characterization of transpeptidase (TP) and glycosyltransferase (GT) domains of Streptococcus pneumoniae penicillin-binding protein (PBP) were conducted. Experiments resulted in the production of a soluble class A PBP from S pneumoniae deprived of its cytoplasmic and transmembrane regions. Proteolytic experiments demonstrated that the GT domain is more sensitive to trypsin and chymotrypsin than the TP domain.
