Abstract

Tourism is a fast-growing industry with many opportunities for marketers. Colleges can help involve students in tourism by inviting tourism-related businesses to participate in campus recruiting, and by offering cooperative education programs, internships and independent study programs that allow students to gain first-hand experience in the tourism industry. Faculty should closely monitor the value of these programs, and restrict them to motivated, independent-minded students. Participating teachers should be rewarded when tenure decisions are being made.
