Abstract
- The New Jersey State Aquarium has reported an increased attendance for July 1998 through September 1998 because of the yellowfin tuna exhibition. The aquarium is the second aquarium in the US to exhibit a yellowfin tuna, which is known to be difficult to capture alive because it is a very delicate and sensitive fish. The yellowfin tuna was captured using the new vessel Pelagica, built by Patriot Boat Co. of Waretown, NJ. The 38-foot boat features custom-built, 1,000-gallon water tank, through which ocean water circulates, keeping the fish from hitting the side of the tank. The aquarium had 180,000 number of attendees during the first quarter of 1998, an 8% increase from the same period a year earlier.
