Abstract
- Norwest Corp.'s upcoming merger with Wells Fargo is likely to be affected by the ongoing union strike against Oregon Steel of Portland, OR. This may be due to the over $250-million deposit and trust fund withdrawal by several Colorado-based Wells Fargo clients who sympathize with the striking steel employees and are against Wells Fargo's lending relationship with Oregon Steel. Although Wells Fargo has asserted its neutral stand regarding the year-long strike, the San Francisco, CA-based bank still refuses to terminate its 22-year-old customer relationship with the steel company.
