Emotional labour, gender and professional stereotypes of emotional and physical contact, and personal perspectives on the emotional labour of nursing

The gendered aspect of emotional labor is analyzed based on data collected from in-depth and semi-structured interviews with nurses. Opinions on proper and improper emotions influencing impressions about nursing have been prevailing. Insights into interpersonal and physical contact with patients, and the supposed roles of males and female nurses are also discussed.
