The Bureau of Municipal Research and the development of a professional public service

The role of the New York Bureau of Municipal Research in the development of a professional public service is discussed. Its contribution to the professionalization of public administration since 1907 by developing a theory for the field, providing a school to train people and facilitating a place for applying the knowledge and training is highlighted.
