Abstract

The nucleation of distinct fibril morphologies is examined by using computer simulations of a simplified model of an amyloid polypeptide. The free-energy profiles of the aggregation process has shown that the nucleation barrier has determined the population fractions of different fibril morphologies, that is, amyloid polymorphism is under kinetic control.
