Abstract
- A conditional cash transfer program intended to widen access to basic education in Bangladesh is analyzed as an instance of the effort to govern chronic poverty. The poor is deems education as a provider of access to social inclusion and to the state. How class and social distinctions led to beneficiary selection practices that routinely exclude the poorest from school is explored.
