Consumption smoothing and vulnerability in Russia

A study analyzes the Russian Longitudinal Monitoring Survey (RLMS) data to investigate the methods of consumption smoothing used by Russians vulnerable to economic fluctuations. Findings indicate that informal coping mechanisms such as support from family and friends, and home production enable urban Russians to cope with consumption smoothing.
