Abstract

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are used for examining the effect of vacancies on the dynamic response of single crystal Cu to [100] shock loading, which has included plasticity and spallation. Tensile plasticity has played a major role in inducing local heating and the power-law reduction in spall length and void nucleation has occurred at highly sheared sites.
