Abstract
- In a blow to animal-rights organizations, 71% pf Swiss voters in a referendum strongly rejected a motion that would have required cantons to each hire lawyers who would defend the rights of animals. The country has very strong animal-rights laws but the group that lobbied for the referendum, Swiss Animal Protection, reports that animal-rights infractions are rarely prosecuted.
