Reports show that chemical companies and their clients invested heavily in alternative energy in 2009 despite the bleak economy. Most chemical makers also anticipated government action that would put limits on carbon emissions. Many firms took steps to reduce their carbon footprints even though they were uncertain of the form such action will take.
