Abbott to acquire Solvay

Abstract
- US healthcare company Abbott is going to acquire Belgian chemical and pharmaceutical company Solvay for 5.2 billion euro. The acquisition is expected to enlarge the Asian and Eastern European markets of Abbott, while boosting Abbott's annual income by more than 3 billion euro. The deal will also provide Abbott with worldwide rights to fenofibrate, a cholesterol drug.
