Abstract

A study was conducted to determine the profile of intravascular pressures along the length of the gastric vasculature. Results indicate that gastric capillary hydrostatic pressure in the mucosal microcirculation is significantly higher than capillary pressure in the muscle vasculature. Morphological findings and measured vascular resistances show that the regional differences in capillary pressures may be due to low precapillary but relatively high postcapillary resistance in the mucosal microcirculation.
