Abstract

During the period between 1978 and 1996, the Chinese economy grew at an annual average rate of 9.8%. Among the factors contributing to this increase were a high domestic savings rate, surplus labor supply, and increasing mobility of factors and improvement in the efficiency of the allocation of resources. China is the largest recipient of direct foreign investment.
