Abstract

The phrase 'civil society' alludes to the quality of interpersonal relations and the vitality of democratic processes. Signs of trouble in this type of society can be seen in the demise of courtesy, declining commitment to family, and a lack of community spirit. Intellectuals pay little attention to higher education and the atmosphere of intellectual life.
