Summer's heat finally slows the pace of CMBS market

Abstract: Activity slowed in the commercial mortgage market in Jul 1998. The month's only major commercial-mortgage-backed-security transaction was a $1.2 billion conduit securitization. Morgan Stanley managed the deal. Insurance companies participating in the whole-loan sector have shown uncertainty concerning proper spreads. The Giliberto/Levy Commercial Mortgage Performance Index posted a second-quarter total return of 3.24%.<br />The commercial mortgage market took a well-deserved breather during July, according to the Barron's/John B.
