Abstract

A model of secretagogue-induced pancreatitis to determine the identity of the intrapancreatic site of trypsinogen activation and what happens with activated trypsin. Subcellular fractionation and both light and electron microscopy immunolocalization were employed. Findings indicated that in response to supramaximal secretagogue stimulation, trypsinogen is activated in a particulate intracellular site that is most likely made of cytoplasmic vacuoles.
