Submarine cable must withstand much more than saltwater

Abstract

Submarine cables need to overcome damages caused by corrosion, salt-water and stray voltage. The most notable source of stray currents is found to be electric trains. A cathodic protection system that does not have direct contact with the submarine cable may help prevent corrosion.
